“What's So Funny?”

Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 7:30 P.M.
Sundin Music Hall, Saint Paul, MN

  • Gioacchino Rossini
    Overture to La Gazza Ladra
  • P.D.Q. Bach
    Octoot
  • Bedrich Smetana
Three Dances from The Bartered Bride
  • Franz Joseph Haydn
    Symphony No. 99 in E-flat Major, D. 485

Our orchestra's spring concert cause:
To elicit from patrons guffaws.
Pieces comic and raucous
From PDQ Bach-ous
Would bend rules without breaking laws.

Often classical music's not funny
Pomp and circumstance brings in more money
But hear Haydn's surprise -
'Twill delight ears and eyes
And Rossini is vibrant and sunny.

The MPO traipses with ease
Through pieces that tickle and tease
Our droll sense of humor
Is not just a rumor
We bet ya that Smetana will please!
